JEROME SAUNIER

For more than two decades, Jerome Saunier worked as a sculptor in the toy industry, shaping figures destined for industrial production. His practice today runs in the opposite direction: a personal world of colourful hybrids, ceramic kaiju and characters that seem to surface from somewhere between memory, folklore and invention.

He draws on Japanese monster culture, on sofubi toys, on childhood obsessions, and on decades of accumulated sculptural craft. Transformation, imperfection and play work as founding principles rather than accidents. His creatures are never fixed: they evolve through moulding, recombination, glazing and chance, forming strange genealogies that swing between tenderness and the grotesque.

His ceramic work was shown publicly for the first time in 2023, in a group exhibition organised by Revue Profane. That project marked a turning point, leading to his first major solo exhibition, Après les princesses, with Yesweloveproject in 2024.
