Through this exhibition in Rotterdam, Daijiro Hama explores the individuality of every existing element, emphasising that each entity has distinct characteristics — habits, traits, size and colour. He highlights the importance of the word “iro” (colour, in Japanese) in expressing the varied conditions of objects, or “iro iro.”

Recently, Daijiro Hama has taken a particular interest in the colour combinations found in animals, birds, fish and insects. While these combinations may seem chaotic when focusing on individual colours, they reveal a sublime harmony when considered as a whole.

In his recent works, Daijiro uses colour to depict landscapes and figures. The colour of the landscape conveys situations, while that of the figures reflects individual characters. His creative process involves experimenting with a variety of colour combinations, gradients, and deliberate choices of contrasting colours.

With “Iro Iro,” Daijiro Hama brings to light the magic of colour combinations and interactions, creating collective harmony while preserving the singularity of each piece. Together, the works in the exhibition achieve a certain balance, while retaining their individuality when examined on their own.
