The creative process is fundamental for Daijiro Hama (b. 1984). Those who visited the Asia Now exhibition in 2018 may have had the chance to see a vast series of his works: hundreds of small pieces on canvas, depicting his inner world, displayed across a wall.

This year, we are delighted to invite you to discover his first solo exhibition in Paris, titled “Mutation.”

In “Mutation,” Daijiro introduces us to Puman, a character in constant evolution. This portrait, solitary at first glance, reflects a facet of himself deeply connected to nature, which he calls Muku: pure and unspoiled.

Looking into Puman’s clear eyes, we can see a part of ourselves. Could it be that each of us harbours a Puman, or does this reflect the recent upheavals in the world? We have thought a great deal about our own image lately…

We also notice an evolution in Daijiro’s technique. For this Paris exhibition, he introduced colour to elevate the monochrome approach of his work. Alongside the canvases, he also presents works on paper as well as a sculpture.

Finally, “Mutation” ties in with the exhibition “Mutant,” which will be held in Tokyo this June. Discover the exhibition in our online viewing room until May 31.
