Takuya Yoshida develops a painting of sensation and memory. He works in layers — accumulated brushwork, restrained touches, colour kept diffuse — and what emerges are suspended emotional states rather than scenes.
The surfaces read as soft at first, and then do not. Beneath the apparent gentleness sits a melancholic depth that the layering both produces and half-conceals; the paintings hold the two registers together without resolving them.
He gives the viewer no story to follow, which is the point. The space he leaves is where intimate projection happens, and each reading of the work is slightly different from the last.
Takuya Yoshida’s work was shown in Paris for the first time in February 2026, in the private presentation of Takeru Amano’s new works at Sato Gallery.
