A colourful clash of feminine power, psychedelic aesthetics and modern art
Sato Gallery hosts Saiko Otake's first solo exhibition in Europe, "COLOURIDER," starting from January 25. The exhibition features new acrylic paintings and works consisting of two photographs that Saiko has been creating since her time in London.
Saiko, believing in the power and charm of colors, invites viewers to experience her unique color combination and the artistry of composition. Drawn to the powerful (fluorescent) colour schemes of psychedelic poster art and design of the 60's, Saiko's work has a nostalgic atmosphere yet a contemporary layout.
She decides on combinations of colors and on the size and quantity of her works based on the exhibition space. She sketches the composition in a sketchbook, and then works on several canvases simultaneously while considering the balance of colors.
Regarding her subject she often gets inspired by female motives because women make her feel empowered and give her a sense of being watched over.
