The first work of the NEW GAME+, series - produced already in 2019, before the Corona disaster - is titled “Yukoku sankei mandala (Patriotism pilgrimage mandala)” and based on the famous short story of the same title by Yukio Mishima, an internationally renown novelist who was active in the 1950s and 1960s.
At the time Mishima decided to take his own life, Japan was in the midst of the highest economic growth since the postwar reconstruction. According to EXCALIBUR Japan matured under the influence of the American culture and today, 50 years later, it is still very similar. The powerful message of EXCALIBIUR is that Mishima's soul to this day continues to be present in Japan and in the iconic places depicted on the work such as Ichigaya station, Yasukuni Shrine, modern Shibuya, and Shinjuku’s skyscrapers.
