At six years old, Ichi started cutting out and pasting things he admired from magazines, finding solace in the process. Gradually, he began to create a world that was comprehensible only to him, Ichi.
Ichi was born in Matsuyama-shi, Ehime-Ken, Japan, on May 1, 1984. His father, Masaki, embodied a strong Bushidou (Samurai) spirit and was a champion in Japan Kendo. Masaki was exceptionally stern about the education of his children, even keeping a wooden sword by his futon and warning that he would defend his home vigorously if a stranger entered.
Whenever Ichi misbehaved, he was banished from the house, sometimes spending entire days in the streets. Fortunately, Matsuyama-shi's public spaces were known for their safety. Losing a wallet on the road often led to its return, making it a wonderful town. It was during these times that Ichi's spirit for selling art outdoors first emerged, as he roamed the streets during his childhood.
Ichi's mother, Miho, was a beautiful woman who radiated happiness to those around her until she went through a challenging phase during menopause. Her anger was particularly triggered by suspicions of her husband's infidelity. On one occasion, in a fit of rage, she wielded a knife at him. Although she eventually improved, those two years were tumultuous.
At the age of five, Ichi survived a severe car accident that brought him to the brink of life and death. His skull was fractured, with bones protruding, and the damage to his left brain was so extensive that his right brain began to compensate. As a result of the accident, he developed a unique ability: when he closes his eyes, he perceives a strong, unrelenting light, which sometimes prevents him from closing his eyes entirely.
At six years old, Ichi started cutting out and pasting things he admired from magazines, finding solace in the process. Gradually, he began to create a world that was comprehensible only to him, Ichi. He became entirely absorbed in constructing this world. Each completed piece brought a fresh wave of excitement and joy. Since then, Ichi has never ceased his cutting and pasting. He embarked on a journey that took him to cities like New York, Los Angeles, Hong Kong, and Paris, initially selling postcards on the streets and ultimately realizing his dream of exhibiting his work at the Marriott Group Meridian Hotel in 2018.
His artwork is now on display in several cities around the world that he has visited, including New York, Los Angeles, Paris, Tokyo, and Hong Kong. Although he currently resides in Hong Kong, he remains constantly on the move.
